Tips for applying your semi-permanent polish

Shake Shake Shake

It’s important to shake your gel polish before each use. This will help even out the texture for an easier, more even application.

Prep Your Nails

Having a good base coat before you paint your nails can make or break your manicure. After pushing back your cuticles and filing your nails and surface, clean off any dirt and oils with a non-acetone nail polish remover. Don’t touch anything after cleaning off the dirt and oils.

To better prepare your nails, a professional manicure kit is essential.

Paint a Thin First Coat

The first coat should be super thin! To apply this first thin coat, remove any excess material from the brush by wiping it on the edge of the bottle. The second coat can be a little thicker and even though most of our gels only require 2 coats for full coverage, it is always better to paint 3 thin coats rather than 2 thick coats.

Avoid shrinkage

Due to its texture, it is normal for gel polish to shrink sometimes. To avoid this, do not let the gel polish take too much air. A good rule to follow: If the brush is not on the nail, the nail must be in the lamp. Remember to paint your nails one at a time. Also, painting your entire nail, all the way to the tip and covering the edge, makes it easier to shrink.

Correct mistakes before curing

Many mistakes happen, but make sure to clean up any imperfections before curing. Gel polish cures dry under the LED lamp, so if you get polish on your skin/cuticles and cure it, it won’t come off. Use the opposite end of the cuticle stick dipped in acetone to clean any polish off your cuticles before curing.

Our biggest tip is practice and patience. Gel polish, like most new things, has a learning curve. The more you do it, the better you’ll get. You may even learn more tips and tricks along the way. Give yourself time, practice, and patience to get it right and you’ll be painting perfect gel manicures in no time!
